Two scholars to discuss 鈥21st Century Dispatches from Latin America鈥
Members of the community are invited to consider 鈥淭he World Beyond Our Borders鈥 during next week鈥檚 Alworth Peace and Justice lecture. Timothy Lorek and Andra Chastain will host 鈥21st Century Dispatches from Latin America鈥 on Tuesday, Nov. 2 at 7:30 p.m. This year鈥檚 series is offered in collaboration with the Royal D. Alworth, Jr. Institute for International Studies at the University of Minnesota Duluth.
Lorek is an assistant professor at 羞羞漫画, teaches courses on Latin American history and politics, world history, and environmental studies and is currently completing a book manuscript dealing with environmental issues in Colombia. Chastain specializes in modern Latin America with a focus on Chile and is an assistant professor at Washington State University.
Tom Morgan, director of the Alworth Center for Peace and Justice, described 鈥淭he World Beyond Our Borders鈥 as the most ambitious lecture series he has coordinated to date. By presenting a series of points of view that are not American, he hopes attendees can begin to see themselves in a wider context and understand the human story in a bigger way.
All lectures are free and open to the public. Attendees have the option to attend the lecture in person at the College鈥檚 Mitchell Auditorium or to stream via Zoom webinar.
The Alworth Center for the Study of Peace and Justice seeks to bridge social and political barriers to bring together people of all ages and philosophies to work toward the common goals of peace and justice. The Center is funded in part by the Manitou Fund, the Global Awareness Fund of the Duluth Superior Area Community Foundation and Reader Weekly.
